There are a lot of people who are suffering from high blood pressure. Pharmaceutical companies are making a lot of money from this preventable and correctable condition. In this video, I help you to gain an in-depth understanding of what hypertension is.

How to determine where your personal blood pressure is:

In most cases, you can check these numbers at pharmacies like Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens.

Normal: Less than 120 over 80 (120/80)

Pre-hypertension: 120-139 over 80-89

High Blood Pressure:

Stage 1: 140-159 over 90-99

Stage 2: 160 and above over 100 and above

In people over age 60: 150 and above over 90 and above

Things you can do to lower your blood pressure

1. Watch what you eat. Reduce your sodium, saturated fat and cholesterol. Sodium is hidden in our favorite can goods: beans, veggies, and sodas. This is the main reason why I prefer frozen over canned foods.

Tip: Rinse canned green beans and vegetables in water to reduce the sodium.  Increase your fruit and veggie intake.

2. Exercise.  Commit to a simple routine that you can actually live with.

Tip: The workout does not have to  be intense. If your blood pressure is measuring within the   pre-hypertension stage, exercise can help you avoid actually developing hypertension. If you already have hypertension, regular physical activity most days can help bring your blood pressure down to safe levels.

These things will lead to you losing weight. Losing weight is great for the blood pressure. Blood pressure tends to increase as our weight increases and vice versa. All it takes is just 10 pounds to see an evident change in your blood pressure.
