The Alabama State Hornets and Alabama A&M Bulldogs will face off for the first game in the Magic City Diamond Classic at the historic Rickwood Field on Friday, May 6th at 12:00 pm. Both of these universities have great baseball programs and are true rivals. Last year, Alabama A&M took home the win, breaking Alabama State’s 17 game winning streak.

The Magic City Diamond Classic is a 3 game series in which Alabama State will be the home team. The first game will be played on Rickwood Field, the oldest professional baseball park in the United States. The other two games will be played in Montgomery in the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Watching these two historically black universities play at Rickwood Field is truly something to get excited about! Rickwood field is currently the home of the Birmingham Barons. However, before integration the field was also home to the Birmingham Black Barons. Friends of Rickwood Field have attempted to restore the diamond to keep the enchantment of the olden days. They have even restored the drop back score board! Today, Rickwood Field hosts 200 games a year.

The City of Birmingham, Mayor William Bell and BCSG are proud to offer this event free to the public.
