I wouldn’t have suggested “Meatless Monday” if snacks weren’t involved. I don’t know about you, but I am all about the snackage. I like grown people snacks though. Carrot sticks w/dressing or 12 grapes and apple slices don’t do anything for my hunger or attitude. Ingles is a great place get snacks. They are affordable and they have a large selection of meatless choices. This is my go-to option if I need to cut my lunch time in half. Most Ingles stores carry raw and roasted nuts, fruits and juices. Plus, they have a salad bar. These are all quick and easy options if you are in hurry.

I am from Alabama, and I had never encountered an Ingles before I moved to Asheville. At first glance, it looks a lot like all the other large chain grocery stores, and in a lot of ways it is. However, there are some subtle beautiful differences. For example: they have a certified dietitian giving out healthy eating tips over the intercom as you shop, like the one about rinsing off your canned goods when you open them to wash away a large percentage of the sodium. They also sell a lot of local foods; I notice that they normally bring local produce to the front of the store. At the end of the day, Ingles is convenient. There is one on just about every corner. Although I shop at the tailgates, co-ops, and other vegan trendy hot spots I still have love for my neighborhood Ingles.

My favorite snack from Ingles right now is the guacamole. It is made fresh daily at select stores around the region. It is the best guacamole I have had in Asheville thus far. It comes in mild and spicy, and there are so many beautiful things you can with it.

You can have it at your desk with chips, pita bread, or raw crackers. Or you can really style it up like I do.  Either way it is still very good.
